Ustad Pyarelal Wadali, one of the singers of legendary Sufi set Wadali Brothers, passed away in Amritsar after cardiac arrest. He was the younger brother of Ustad Puran Chand Wadali. The Sufi singer breathed his last Fortis Escorts Hospital in Amritsar where he was admitted on Thursday.
The Wadali brothers came from the Baazigar clan of Guru ki Wadali village near Amritsar, they had an ancestral tradition of singing the Sufi kaafi. Their music in Bolywood films such as Pinjar, Tanu Weds Manu, Mausam, or their recording of ‘Tu Mane ya Na Mane, Dildara’ with Coke Studio India’s Season 3 took them to pinnacles of popularity. But the best of the lot is ‘Dama Dam Mast Kalandar’.
Ustad Pyarelal Wadali is survived by his wife Surjit Kaur, two sons, Satpal Singh and Sandeep, and three daughters, Sheela Rani, Raj Rani and Soma Rani. His brother Puran Chand Wadali, is grieving the loss of not only his brother but his partner in music and the most beloved of his disciples.
The cremation was held at 3:30 pm at his ancestral village Guru Ki Wadali, 10 kms from Amritsar.
