17 lives lost due to recklessness of bus driver

Police has reported at least 16 people were killed when a speeding tourist bus overturned after hitting a concrete road divider in the north. Police officer Ajay Shanker Rai says another 25 people were injured in the accident today near Mainpuri, a town in Uttar Pradesh state.

The occupants were returning to their hometown of Farrukhabad after visiting Jaipur,had around 60 passengers on board. The accident happened near Tirathpur village at around 5:30 am. a city known for forts, museums and gardens in western Rajasthan state. India has the world’s deadliest roads, with more than 110,000 people killed annually. Most crashes are blamed on reckless driving, poorly maintained roads and aging vehicles. Seventeen people have died and twenty five others injured in a bus accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district this morning. An investigation into the accident suggests that the driver of the bus was speeding when the vehicle hit the road divider and overturned. The accident happened in Mainpuri’s Danhara area.

Sixteen people died on the spot, while one of the passengers critically injured, died at Saifai hospital. Those remaining people who were injured have been taken to hospitals nearby. Three of the twelve injured are in critical condition. The injured have been hospitalized with three of them in critical condition. Rai says the bus overturned as the driver lost control at a sharp bend. The driver of the bus was also injured severely, and lost his left leg in the accident.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condoled the death of the passengers in the bus accident. He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of the departed people. The chief minister also instructed officers to take all measures possible for the appropriate treatment of those injured.

Mr Adityanath has also announced a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh each to the family of those who died, and Rs. 50,000 to those who were injured severely.
