The banned outfit National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khaplang) has claimed responsibility for the attack, and warned of more such incidents in the future. The outfit claimed it had killed six soldiers and injured as many, but the Assam Rifles denied this, according to The Telegraph.

The insurgents attacked a group of Assam Rifles personnel as they were going to get water from a river around 3 pm near Aboi town on the Myanmar border. The attackers used an improvised explosive device and grenades.
A gunfight between security forces and the insurgents began. The number of militant casualties is yet to be ascertained.
