Coronavirus Pandemic: 13387 Covid19 cases in India, 437 deaths

The number of cases reported in India now stands at 13,387, of which 11,201 are active cases, according to the Ministry of health. The death toll in the country has risen to 437. In the past 24 hours, 1,007 fresh Covid-19 infections and 23 deaths were reported. On the other hand, 1748 patients have been cured of the virus or discharged. The worst state to be affected is Maharashtra with 3,205 cases and 194 deaths.

As per the Health Ministry data, Delhi is at 1,640 cases, Tamil Nadu at 1,267 cases and Rajasthan at 1,131 cases.

The Centre has also released a list of 170 ‘hotspot districts’ which includes six metros – Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. Cities such as Jaipur and Agra are also on the list.

Coronavirus cases in Mumbai has reached 2,043 with 107 new patients testing positive. At least 26 of the new cases were reported in Dharavi, Asia’s biggest slum.

An internal government assessment has suggested that India may touch its peak of coronavirus cases in the first week of May. The numbers will then start declining, sources in the Home Ministry have said.

Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das will address the media at 10 am on Friday. This will the second time that the governor will be addressing the media since the nationwide lockdown.

India is currently under a nationwide lockdown which started March 25. Initially, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that a 21-day lockdown till April 14, however, it was extended till May 3 now virus cases continue to surge across the country.
