2018 Asian Para Games: Sandeep Chaudhary claims India’s maiden gold medal

Sandeep Chaudhary won India’s first gold medal at the Asian Paralympics after bagging the top honour in men’s Javelin throw event in Jakarta on Monday.

Sandeep covered a distance of 60.01m in his third attempt to clinch the gold in the F42-44/61-64 category. Chaminda Sampath Hetti of Sri Lanka won the silver with a score of 59.32m, while Iran’s Omidi Ali settled for the bronze with 58.97m.

The Press Trust of India reported that Chaudhary along with other competitors in the F42-44/61-64 category – which falls under limb deficiency, leg length difference, impaired muscle power or impaired range of movement – participate without a prosthesis which relates to.

Earlier on Sunday, India had won two silver and three bronze medals at the event. Two of those medals came from powerlifting where Farman Basha claimed the silver, while Paramjeet Kumar won the bronze in the 49kg category.

In the women’s 100m butterfly in S-10 swimming category, Devanshi Satijawon picked up a silver, while Suyash Jadhav clinched the bronze in the men’s 200-metre individual medley in the SM-7 category.
