Ajinkya Rahane to lead Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy

India’s Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane on Wednesday was named the captain of the Mumbai side for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, as stated by a press release from the Mumbai Cricket Association.

Placed in Elite Group A, the 41-time Ranji Trophy champions would take on Baroda in Alur on September 19.

Shreyas Iyer, who too like Rahane was overlooked for the upcoming Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was named the vice-captain of the team.

Talented young opener Prithvi Shaw too has been named in the squad. Shaw was given a call-up to the Indian Test team in England for the fourth and fifth matches but didn’t feature in any of the two games.

Mumbai, who are the most successful side in the history of the Ranji Trophy are in Group A with Baroda, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Railways, Vidarbha, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Here is the squad: Ajinkya Rahane (Captain), Shreyas Iyer (Vice Captain), Prithvi Shaw, Jay Bista, Surya Kumar Yadav, Siddhesh Lad, Aditya Tare, Eknath Kerkar, Shivam Dube, Akash Parkar, Dhaval Kulkarni, Shams Mulani, Vijay Gohil, Tushar Deshpande, Royston Dias.
