Amitabh Bachchan To Lend His Voice For Google Maps?

Amitabh Bachchan has a distinctive voice that has distinguished many ads and social campaigns. Now, this voice could also help guide you to your preferred location. As per recent reports, Google has approached Amitabh Bachchan to give his voice for Google Maps in India. However, no decision has been reached yet and the actor has yet to sign.

If the deal falls through, the actor will record the navigation instructions from his home due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. There is no information on when Google plans to introduce the new voice or if Google Maps will provide the option of switching between the voice of Amitabh Bachchan and the current one.  Currently, Google Maps India uses the voice of entertainer Karen Jacobsen.

Google Maps is currently one of the most preferred navigation apps in India. The actor’s voice will be used to announce instructions during turn-by-turn navigation. Amitabh Bachchan could give the navigation instructions on Google Maps in multiple languages for the app.

If this deal does end up working out, it will be the first time that a celebrity voice will feature on Google Maps. While celebrity voices are available for Google Assistant, Google Maps does not offer any such alternatives as of yet. Meanwhile, the Google-owned app Waze does have several celebrity voices like Morgan Freeman and Liam Neeson.

On the work front, Amitabh Bachchan starrer Gulabo Sitabo is set to release on Prime Video on 12 June 2020. The actor is also a part of Ayan Mukherjee’s Brahamastra and Rumi Jafry’s Chehre.
