BCCI Election Will Be Held On October 22

The Committee of Administrators (CoA) has finally announced the date of Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI). The BCCI election is slated to be held on 22 October 2019. The date of BCCI elections comes after CoA met in the Capital today.

According to reports, the elections of the state associations will be completed by September 14 and names of representatives of state associations to BCCI are scheduled to be sent by September 23. The election will kick off from 30 June  2019, as on this date appointment of the electoral officer by BCCI will be done and electoral protocol will be prepared by the electoral officer of BCCI in consultation with the CoA and it will be communicated to all state associations.

As per the report, the appointment of the electoral officer will be concluded by respective State Associations on July 1.

On August 14, the process of preparation of the list of members, protocol and electoral roll of the State Associations by the electoral officer will be completed. CoA Chief Vinod Rai said that the apex council of the state associations will now have 19 members in place of nine as discussed with the Amicus Curiae.

It is to be noted that the Supreme Court of India had appointed CoA, comprising of chief Vinod Rai and members Diana Edulji and Lt General Ravi Thodge, who have been running Indian cricket for more than two years.

“The Amicus was asked to hold mediations with the state associations as they had filed about 80 IAs in the court. The court told the amicus that you hold mediations with them and come back to us. The state associations have come forward and accepted all the recommendations and about 30-odd state associations have now been rendered compliant,” CoA chief Vinod Rai told news agency IANS.

“From the main constitution, only one concession has been made by the Amicus and that is that the Apex Council of the BCCI had a limitation of 9 members, which was supposed to be mirrored to the states also. But there were some practical difficulties and it was felt that we needed to increase this number and make it more flexible. It was jointly decided that it would be 19 which would also include the three appointed members. The amicus said the time is ripe to hold elections. The BCCI election will be held on October 22. Those who haven’t complied will have to comply,” he added.
