Black Widow: Scarlett Johansson Starrer To Get A Digital Release?

Disney’s Mulan set for a digital release on Disney+ on September 4. Fans are wondering if Scarlett Johansson starrer ‘Black Widow’ too will do the same? The much-awaited film that was all set to hit theatres May this year did not get a release due to coronavirus pandemic.

Finally, Walt Disney Company Chief Executive Officer Bob Chapek addressed the possibility of Black Widow premiering on Disney+’s upcoming VOD option.

He said, “We’re very pleased to be able to bring Mulan to our consumer base that’s been waiting for it for a long, long time, as we’ve had to, unfortunately, move our theatrical date several times. But we’re looking at Mulan as a one-off as opposed to saying there’s a new business windowing model we are looking at.”

He added that the release of Black Widow on the digital platform might NOT be the case just yet. But he also did not rule out the possibility of a Disney+ premiere later.

Black Widow was originally slated to release on May 1. However, due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the film was delayed. It is now due to arrive in theaters in Nov., should conditions improve and theaters reopen.

Black Widow stars Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, O-T Fagbenle as Rick Mason and Rachel Weisz. A Cate Shortland directorial, the movie arrives in theaters on November 6.
