On Tuesday, the K-Pop boy band, BTS have spoken up against the racial discrimination and violence towards Asian people in the West. They issued a statement on their social media handles and also shared their own horrifying past experiences with racism.
In the statement, BTS wrote that they send their deepest condolences to people who have lost their loved ones. Sharing their own experience, “We recall moments when we faced discrimination as Asians. We have endured expletives without reason and were mocked for the way we look. We were even asked why Asians spoke in English. We cannot put into words the pain of becoming the subject of hatred and violence for such a reason,” they said.

Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook concluded by saying, that they stand against racial discrimination and condemn violence. “You, I and we all have the right to be respected,” they said.
Earlier this month, in March, 8 people, 6 of whom were Asian and 2 were white, were killed in three shooting incidents in the Atlanta area by a suspect identified as 21-year-old Robert Aaron Long. After this incident, people, as well as celebrities all over the world, came forward to address the hate through social media.
