Both players came off a tiring semi final but they made sure that it was over without any roller coaster rides. The Serbian did all the hard work in setting up the final summit clash and finished off the last match like a master. It took just two hours and 15 minutes for him to wrap up the game.

“There is no better place in the world to really be making a comeback. This is a sacred place for the world of tennis.”, Djokovic said.

Djokovic hadn’t won a major since the 2016 French Open, in which he won all four Slams in succession. He succumbed to an injured right elbow that needed surgery and forced him off the tour for the last half of 2017. As his losses accumulated, his ranking fell out of the top 20 for the first time in more than a decade. He grew so frustrated with his form that he spoke about skipping the grass-court circuit.

“There were several moments where I was frustrated and questioning whether I can get back on desired level or not. But that makes this whole journey even more special for me.”, the Serbian added.

Novak Djokovic now has six wins under his belt against the South African, while the latter has managed to defeat Novak just once. In Wimbledon the head to head count is 3-0 in favor of Djokovic.
