COVID-19 Spike: Canada extend direct flight ban from India till June

India is currently dealing with the Coronavirus-led crises. With the outspread of the second wave, several states started reported dealing with the slow supply of vaccines and oxygen. Many states including Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Gujarat and few others are partially still following the lockdowns. Due to the surging cases, Canada had banned direct Indian flights. Now the country has extended the ban till June. The Canadian government apparently took the decision to help control the outspread.

Earlier the ban was imposed for 30-days, starting from April 22 to expiring on Saturday i.e May 22. Now the ban on direct flights from India has been extended till June 21. The Cargo flights will however still be permitted in order to maintain shipments of essential supplies, such as vaccines and personal protective equipment.

According to the media reports, Canada-based airlines received their government notice on the extension of the ban of direct flights from India. The officials from the airlines have been asked to halt direct passengers from air traffic, apparently confirms an airline official.

India currently stands at the second position to have been worst hit by the pandemic Coronavirus after the US.
