COVID-19: Night curfew imposed in Telangana till April 30

On Tuesday, the government of Telangana has imposed a night curfew in the state which will remain till April 30. The night curfew will be in place from 9 pm to 5 am with immediate effect, according to orders issued by Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar.

The decision was taken in tune with the measures suggested by the Ministry of Home Affairs to prevent the spread of Covid-19. On April 19, Telangana reported 5,926 new Coronavirus cases, 2,209 recoveries, and 18 deaths; case tally at 3,61,359 and active cases 42,853, reported news agency ANI.

News agency ANI tweeted: “Government of Telangana announces night curfew in the state from 9 PM to 5 AM. The order comes into effect immediately and will remain imposed till May 1st. Essential services to remain exempted.”

Here’s what all is allowed and what is not:

  • All offices, firms, shops, establishments, restaurants, etc shall close at 8 pm.
  • Hospitals, diagnostic labs, pharmacies, and essential services suppliers will be allowed.
  • Movement of people shall be prohibited from 9 pm onwards.
  • Government officials, medical personnel, and people coming from or going to airports, railway stations, bus stands on the production of a valid ticket, among others.
  • No restriction on inter-state and intra-state or transportation of essential and non-essential goods. No separate pass will be required.
  • Public transport services including autos and taxis shall be allowed to function within the given time for the transportation of exempted categories of people during the period of night curfew.

Any violation shall result in prosecution under Sections 51 to 60 of Disaster Management Act 2005 and Section 188 of IPC as well as other applicable laws.
