Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh‘s onscreen collaboration has been a hit at the box-office. Fans were eager to see them sharing screen space once again. Well, looks like they are getting their wish granted as Deepika will be seen playing Ranveer’s wife in Kabir Khan’s ’83’. The movie is based on the Indian cricket team’s iconic World Cup win. Kapil Dev was the captain of the team a role that is being played by Ranveer Singh.

Deepika Padukone who had jetted off to London where the ’83’ team is shooting, has confirmed she is a part of the sports drama. She will be playing the role of Kapil Dev‘s wife Romi Dev in the film.

Speaking to Bombay Times recently, Deepika opened up about how the script was an instant ‘yes’ from her side. “I am so glad that Kabir (Khan) came to me with it. This happened a couple of months ago when he was still casting the boys for the film. It’s just that I was busy with ‘Chhappak’ and we were waiting for the right moment to make the announcement.”

She further added that “There isn’t a lot of material available on Romi Dev. I have met her a few times, including our wedding reception, and I have interacted with her socially over the years. I am also referring to whatever material the director’s team has sent across to me. My parents have known their family for many years. So, I feel I know her and hope that she is proud and happy with the film. I intend to connect and spend some time with her before I start filming to be able to understand her perspective better.”

Will Deepika chop her hair to get the Romi Dev look? “Well, you will have to wait and watch!” laughed off Deepika.

The actress has also come on board as the co-producer of the film marking her second production venture after Meghna Gulzar’s ‘Chhapaak’. The sports drama will hit the screens on April 10 next year.
