MS Dhoni to create history after Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is set to create history in the second T20 International against England at Cardiff on Friday. The former Indian captain will become the third Indian cricketer to play his 500th international game. Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid are other players who crossed the milestone. The master Blaster played 664 International games in his 24-year long career whereas The Wall played 509 matches for team India.

MS Dhoni just clinched the record for most stumpings in T20 Internationals in the last game after dismissing Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow. He has 33 stumpings to his name from 91 T20Is ahead of Kamran Akmal who has 32. The two neighboring wicket keepers also hold the record for most dismissals from behind the stumps with MS Dhoni effecting 82 and Kamran Akmal sending 60 batsman back to the pavilion.

In terms of catches, MS Dhoni is way ahead of all other wicket keepers across the globe. He has taken 49 catches whereas the next in the list is Denesh Ramdin with 34 catches under his name.

Dhoni has retired from test cricket but continues to play limited overs format. He will become the ninth player to join this list of players who played 500th International match for their country. Sachin tops the list followed by Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Sanath Jayasuriya, Ricky Ponting, Shahid Afridi, Jacques Kallis and Rahul Dravid. Indeed, a list of legends.

Dhoni made his international debut in 2004 against Bangladesh and has played 499 international games till now including 90 tests, 318 ODIs and 91 T20Is. He made his test debut in 2005 against Sri Lanka and Dhoni was also the part of the squad in India’s inaugural T20 International against South Africa in 2006.

It will be a historic day when he walks on the field in the second T20 International at Cardiff.
