Here are seven such adult dog breeds that look different as puppies:
1. Briard:
Adult Briards have a wavy coat of Black, Tawny or Grey fur that covers their whole body. But as a puppy, the growth is not so thick. Briards lose most of their puppy fur between 7 to 18 months of age and begin growing two layers of fur.
2. Bergamasco:
An adult Bergamasco has matted fur that is long an abundant protecting the breed from the harsh alpine climate. The puppy does not have a well-developed coat.
3. Tibetan Terrier:
Known as the “Holy Dog of Tibet,” Tibetan terriers have large, snowshoe-like paws and a double-layered coat. The coat is not well developed in a puppy. The puppy will shed all its coat around 9 months and develops an adult coat of fur made up of two layers.
4. Bearded Collie:
Bearded Collies are covered in a double coat of fur. But they much more fluffier as a puppy. An adult has a double coat comprised of a soft, furry and close undercoat, and an outer coat which is flat, harsh, strong and shaggy, but in a puppy, the length is not yet developed.
5. Salukis:
Salukis are known for their slender frames and long legs. They are also known for their agility. This dog breed has an elegance to them that is missing as a puppy. For they are chunkier and quite small as a puppy.
6. Afghan Hound:
Afghan Hounds are known for their elegant beauty with a thick, silky, flowing coat. The coat is long and fine-textured. In baby puppies, the distinct coat pattern will not have had time to develop.
7. Hungarian Puli:
The Puli has a thick and distinctive coat comprised of ‘dreadlocks’, which are the instantly recognisable feature of the breed. The coat’s naturally occurring cords are woolly, dense, and weatherproof. In baby puppies, the distinct coat pattern will not have had time to develop, so they can sometimes be mistaken for Lhasa Apso or Tibetan Terrier.
