PMC Bank Scam: ED summons Sanjay Raut’s wife, Shiv Sena shows support

The Enforcement Directorate has summoned Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut‘s wife Varsha Raut. This is in connection with the Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative (PMC) Bank scam case. Reportedly this is the third summons sent to the Sena leader’s wife. Varsha Raut has been asked to appear before the ED on December 29.

The ED is investigating alleged financial transactions between Varsha and Pravin Raut, who is under arrest in the case.

Sanjay Raut condemning the move said, “Targeting women of a household is an act of cowardice. We are not scared of anyone and will respond accordingly. ED needed some papers and we have submitted them in time.”

Shiv Sena has also rallied behind the leader. Aaditya Thackeray has called the notice politically motivated. He said that “This is all political. The Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government is not afraid of any such notice.”

State home minister Anil Deshmukh has also condemned the notice. “Anyone who opposes the BJP or their policies is targeted. Such a witch hunt was never seen in Maharashtra politics before,” said Deshmukh

NCP chief Jayant Patil said the ED was being used to target anyone who goes against the BJP.
