England beat depleted Australia by 3 wickets in the 1st ODI

Australia had two adequate warm up matches before the England ODI series. Marcus Stoinis and Travis Head scored tons in respective matches whereas the team looked good enough to face the England side that had just come from a shocking 6 run defeat against Scotland.

On Wednesday, majority of the Kangaroo batsman perished to some accurate bowling by Moeen Ali and Liam Plunket. They picked three wickets each reducing Aussies on a below par score of 214 runs. Had it not been Glenn Maxwell who scored crucial 62 runs, Australia would have ended on a nothing total.

Billy Stanlake struck in the first over itself giving the visitors an outside chance. England lost three wickets on 38 runs and looked in a bit of trouble. Eoin Morgan joined Joe Root at the crease and they went along smoothly until Morgan perishing after scoring majority of the runs. It looked an easy chase from their on. David Willey and Liam Plunkett finished things off for the hosts and went 1-0 up in the five match series
