The Best Fallout: New Vegas Mods

Fallout: New Vegas is a game that relies heavily upon mods to make it great. While the base game is good, it does grow stale after the first run through. There isn’t much to do in the game except for the main storyline. Even the majority of side quests are linked to the main story in some way.

However, this is where the modders community comes to the rescue. Fallout: New Vegas has some of the best mods ever created. These mods serve to elevate the game to a whole new level. While some mods simply fix bugs and common crashes, others bring extra content to the table including things that were supposed to be in the game but never saw the light of the day. Here we list down some of the best Fallout: New Vegas mods that improve upon the gameplay experience.

Best Fallout: New Vegas mods

Fallout New Vegas Script Extender

To unlock the more intricate mods, players will require the Fallout New Vegas Script Extender (NVSE) mod first. It is a mod that enables the use of other more complex mods in the game. It is sort of a universal mod software to support other New Vegas mods.

FNV 4 GB Patcher

The FNV 4GB Patcher mod allows the game to use more memory which, in turn, increases stability. In addition, it also helps with reducing script lag and memory overload crashes. The game’s save files increase in size with time eventually becoming so large that the game cannot process them. The FNV 4GB Patcher mod helps Fallout: New Vegas circumvent that problem by accessing more memory.

New Vegas Anti Crash (NVAC)

This one is pretty self-evident. The New Vegas Anti Crash mod prevents the game from crashing repeatedly. While this mod is not a complete fail safe for all crashes it does reduce the frequency considerably. However, players can reduce lags and crashes considerably by combining FNV 4GB Patcher mod with the New Vegas Anti Crash mod.

NMC’s Texture Pack

NMC’s Texture Pack is easy to install but provides a major overhaul to the game’s visuals which have become pretty dated with time. It re-textures roads, trees, landscape, vehicles buildings and interiors with high-resolution photographic based equivalent textures.

Fallout Character Overhaul (FCO)

This is another cosmetic mod that allows players to beautify the NPCs as well as their own character. Since the majority of gameplay is spent looking at these NPCs it’s not a bad idea to customize them to personal liking. It is a high-resolution overhaul of characters in Fallout New Vegas changing nearly everything possible that there is to change. Players can create nicer looking, believable and realistic characters in Fallout: New Vegas with the help of this mod.

EVE-Essential Visual Enhancements

The Essential Visual Enhancements mod improves upon the weapon interactions. This includes bullet impacts, explosion textures, lasers, and ash piles on kill. It even provides character reactions to being shot and elaborate effects on getting killed.

Project Nevada

Project Nevada expands on the existing mechanics while adding a slew of new content in the game. It also ramps up the difficulty of combat and makes inventory space more precious. Project Nevada is fully customizable making it a recommended mod for all types of players. Every feature of this Fallout: New Vegas mod can be changed, activated, or deactivated. Players can increase carrying capacity, make their movement speed faster, change how much health they get from Endurance and leveling, and a bucketload of other amazing stuff.

The Someguy Series

The Someguy Series is an umbrella mod to the quests and companion mods made by someguy2000. Players can choose which mods they install from the fully voice-acted quests and companions. They keep getting better in overall quality with time. The quests are complex and the plot has enough narrative to keep players hooked.

New Vegas Uncut

The New Vegas Uncut mod completes and adds all the original content that was supposed to be in the game but was never released due to time constraints. This nine mod series brings a lot of content to the table that could have been lost in transition.

However, Freeside Open is incompatible with a lot of other mods. It contradicts any mod that adds new quests, areas, some items, or NPCs to Freeside. It is a cool mod that interconnects all of Freeside’s parts so there aren’t so many loading screens to go through but comes at the cost of a lot of other content.

Beyond Boulder Dome

Beyond Boulder Dome is a quest and location mod based on the Boulder Dome location from Fallout: Van Buren. It is definitely worth a try even if just for it’s eerie aesthetics.

Weapon Mods Expanded (WMX)

The Weapon Mods Expanded builds upon increasing the weapons mods and adding some cool new weapons into the mix. The WMX mod for Fallout New Vegas expands upon the base game’s weapon modding system. All weapons get the maximum of three applicable weapon mods, including unique weapons. Unique weapons can be modified with the same weapon mods as their common counterparts.

A Tale Of Two Wastelands

Tale of Two Wastelands is a mod that lets you play Fallout 3 and its DLC in Fallout: New Vegas. It allows players to travel between the two worlds with the same character. This mod applies New Vegas’ new mechanics and more interesting perks to Fallout 3’s gameplay.

These are the best Fallout: New Vegas mods that players must try out at least once. Have you tried any of them out?
