Irrfan Khan Demise: Did you know the actor gave up cricket for acting?

Today Bollywood lost another precious gem as Irrfan Khan passed away today. The actor was admitted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani, Mumbai hospital yesterday for a colon infection. The 53- year old was battling cancer since 2018 and it was confirmed on Tuesday that he was under observation.

But, before entering the film industry, Irrfan Khan wanted to become a cricketer and due to the lack of money, his career as a sportsman came to an end. Back in 2017, On the chat show Son of Abish, the actor said, “My captain liked my bowling, so he made me a bowler. I don’t know. He used to tell me, ‘Throw me a nice one…’ I used to just throw the ball and somehow used to get a couple of wickets.”

The Angrezi Medium’ actor also stated that he was selected in on CK Nayudu tournament, “I was selected in one of the tournaments – CK Nayudu. The situation in my house was such that I had to lie to go and play and make excuses when asked where we were. So it wasn’t encouraged to have a career in sports,” he said.

Further adding, “When I was selected, the team had to travel from Jaipur to Ajmer, and I needed Rs 200-250. I couldn’t arrange for it. So that day, I realized that I couldn’t pursue this.”

Later, Irrfan took admission in the prestigious National School of Drama (NSD) for which he wanted Rs 300. While he did not have that money, it was his sister who provided for the funds for him.

Irrfan Khan is popularly known for her roles in Bollywood movies like ‘Maqbool’ and ‘Piku’. The versatile actor earned a National Award for his powerful act in sports drama ‘Paan Singh Tomar’. Besides Bollywood, he was globally recognized for his roles in movies like ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, ‘Inferno’ and ‘Life of Pi’.
