BAFTA 2021: Late actors Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor given tribute

The 74th British Academy for Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards held in the Royal Albert Hall. The ceremony officially kicked off on Saturday night. The awards paid tributes to late Bollywood actors Irrfan Khan and Rishi Kapoor in Royal Albert Hall, London along with Hollywood stars Sean Connery, Kirk Douglas, and Chadwick Boseman.

In their In Memorium segment, the actors who passed away in April last year, the iconic stars were being honored at the prestigious awards night. In the form of a video clip, over 40 artists were paid tribute. It also included actors, writers, directors, and technicians.

The video started with a tribute to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who passed away on April 9, this year.  Irrfan Khan’s mention was played along with a dialogue from his 2012 Hollywood film ‘Life of Pi.’ Many fans took to their social media handle to express their grief on seeing the late actors get honored on the awards show.

Hosted by Edith Bowman and Dermot O’Leary.  Prince Williams was expected to make an appearance virtually, however, the Duke of Cambridge had to pull out of the awards show due to grandfather Prince Philip’s demise on Friday.

Irrfan Khan was admitted to Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on 28 April 2020, where he started receiving treatment for a colon infection, the following day, he died from the infection and was buried at the Versova Kabristan in Mumbai and his last rites were performed by his sons.

Rishi Kapoor was admitted to Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital on 29 April 2020 owing to breathing difficulties. He died on 30 April 2020 from leukemia. His last rites were performed at Chandanwadi Crematorium and his ashes were immersed in Banganga.
