Jamshedpur FC climbed to fourth in the standings following a 2-0 victory over Delhi Dynamos, who are yet to win a game this season. Their latest defeat came at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Wednesday.
The win helped Jamshedpur dispose FC Goa to a rung below, they have 19 points from 12 matches, Goa has played two less. Delhi, on the other, are out of the contentions for semi-finals after earning just four points from 11 games, seven of which have resulted in defeats.
Farukh Choudhary’s stunner gave the home side what was their only fourth win in 12 matches after Australian legend Tim Cahill had cancelled out Lallianzuala Chhangte’s opener.
Delhi, as in most of their matches, started well and could have scored as early as the first minute through Adria Carmona when his pile-driver, after a quick one-two with Rene Mihelic, rattled the upright and went out of play.
But that was only a glimpse of Delhi’s attacking prowess because by the time they broke the deadlock they had done everything other than scoring to leave Jamshedpur backline in its haunches. Lallianzuala’s goal came from a Mihelic pass when the Slovenian squared a lovely ball for the right-wingman inside the box to blast home from a powerful effort.
From there Delhi struggled to push themselves up as Jamshedpur slowly grew into the game.
At the hour mark, the home side took the lead through a Faruck Choudhary stunner. After Delhi had failed to clear Calvo’s corner, the ball fell for the youngster, who brought it low and then on seeing a defender get close to him, Choudhary fired the ball at a bullet’s pace into the top-right corner.
Despite, clear evidence referee Pranjal Banerjee remained completely ignorant to the visitors’ appeal which eventually allowed Jamshedpur hold on to their slender lead and seal the victory.
