Javelin thrower Amit Kumar suspended for doping charges

Athletics Federation of India has suspended Indian Javelin thrower Amit Kumar after he tested positive for a banned substance during an exposure trip to Finland in the month of June.

The AFI were reluctant about any disclosure about the incident but sources close to the athlete confirmed that the bronze medal holder at the recent National Inter-State Athletics Championships had been handed provisional suspension.

Amit failed to make it to the Asian Games team as he fell short of the 81m mark. He won a silver medal at the Federation Cup before clinching bronze at Inter State Meet.

It is alleged that the awful moment came in Finland during the exposure trip last month. On the directions of the Athletes Integrity Unit (AIU) of the IAAF, the tests were undertaken by Finland’s anti doping agency that brought about a horrendous outcome for the talented athlete from India.

He tested positive for excessive levels of testosterone which was present in a particular supplement that he consumed. His misery began when he did not mention in the dope control form about the supplement that he consumed before landing in Finland.

“Amit mentioned about the supplement in his form, there was a chance of getting relief but he did not mention it because at that particular time as he was not consuming it.”, source close to the athlete said.

Amit Kumar wasn’t aware that the supplement’s composition had banned elements which proved fatal for the Javelin Thrower who counted as one of the better athletes in India.
