The country is imposed with COVID-19 Lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus. Ever since the imposition, several reports have emerged of wild animals venturing into public spaces. Recently a civet cat and a leopard were spotted at two different places in Telangana’s capital city Hyderabad.
While the civet was seen roaming freely inside a mosque, Noorani Masjid, in the Golconda area of the city. The leopard was seen lying beside a median on the National Highway-7 (NH-7) in Hyderabad’s Mailardevpally.
The motorists passing through Katedan under-bridge were shocked to find the leopard resting beside the road median early Thursday morning. The leopard appears to be injured. After receiving information, police and forest officials rushed to the spot.
DCP Shamshabad, Prakash Reddy told ANI, “The leopard was seen by the locals at around 8:15 AM on the NH-7. When the officials reached the spot, the wild cat ran into the nearby open place of the highway. The rescue operation by the police and forest officials is on.”
The department has also deployed drones and trap cameras to try to spot the leopard. But the Big Cat still remains untraceable. Locals are asked to stay indoors till it is caught.
Forest officials rescued the Asian Palm Civet which had strayed into the Golconda area in the city. They have shifted it to Nehru Zoological Park and plan to leave it in the forest after the necessary treatment.
