Malayalam filmmaker Sachidanandan passes away

Popular Mollywood screenwriter-director KR Sachidanandan passed away. The Malayalam filmmaker popularly known as Sachy suffered a cardiac arrest and died at Thrissur’s Jubilee Mission Hospital. He was 48-years-old. The news was confirmed by Dr. Benny Joseph, the CEO of Jubilee Mission hospital.

Sachy was recovering from hip surgery when he suffered a cardiac arrest on Tuesday. He was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Thrissur’s Jubilee Mission Hospital. Sachy remained critical and was on ventilator support. But did not show any signs of neurological improvement due to hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. The filmmaker passed away at 9.30 pm on Thursday.

The Malayalam film industry was engulfed in grief after the news of Sachy’s demise surfaced. Actors Prithviraj Sukumaran, Nivin Pauly, Tovino Thomas, and Dulquer Salaam condoled his demise.

Sachy was a practicing lawyer in the Kerala High Court. He turned to the film industry first by jointly writing scripts before going solo. Sachy debuted in the film industry as a writer, collaborating with fellow writer and screenwriter Sethunath.

He shot to fame with the Prithviraj and Biju Menon-starrer ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’. The film received rave reviews and is set to be remade in Telugu and Bollywood. Rana Daggubati and Ravi Teja will be seen in Telugu. John Abraham has bought the film’s Hindi remake rights.
