Mamata Banerjee Wins Bhabanipur Assembly Bypoll

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee registered a big win from Bhabanipur. The TMC chief Banerjee defeated her main rival, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Priyanka Tibrewal. The CM won by a record margin of 58,832 votes after the final 21 rounds of counting crossing her victory margin of 2011.

Mamata Banerjee’s victory just five days ahead of Durga Puja brought festive cheer to Bhabanipur. TMC supporters celebrated with green-coloured ‘gulal’ and danced to the beat of drums.

The CM thanked for people of Bhabanipur and West Bengal for the election results. “We have won in each and every ward. I am satisfied because Bhabanipur has shown the way. All eyes were trained on this seat. I have been freshly inspired to work more for the people.” Banerjee said after winning by-polls.

She added, “I will not show V sign. I will show three fingers because I am not contesting alone. My colleagues in Jangipur and Samshergunj are also winning comprehensively.”

The Bhabanipur constituency has been a stronghold of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) since its inception. Mamata Banerjee’s Kalighat residence also falls under this constituency. This win was important for Banerjee to enter the state assembly. Banerjee took an oath as the West Bengal chief minister on May 5. She had to get elected to the West Bengal Assembly before November 5.

TMC’s Jakir Hossain was leading from Jangipur. Another TMC member Amirul Islam was ahead in the Samserganj seat. They won in the other two bypolls in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal.
