Pakistan: Former lawmaker Ali Raza Abidi shot dead outside his residence in Karachi

Former Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) lawmaker Ali Raza Abidi was shot dead on Tuesday outside his house located in Defence area of Karachi, Pakistan.

As soon as the incident was reported, Karachi police launched a probe and acquired CCTV footage of the attack. The video shows, as the Abidi arrived at his residence in his car and paused for the gate to open, two motorcyclists entered the frame, having chased him to his home, and stopped right next to the driver s door.

The video clip indicates, one of the suspects alighted from the motorbike fires multiple shots and returned to his accomplice and both of them flee on the bike.

SSP Peer Muhammad Shah said that the police were investigating the case from every angle. “We are also trying to ascertain the motive behind the assassination,” he said. The police official also confirmed that the firing took place after the gate of Ali Raza Abidi’ house had been opened.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah strongly condemned the murder of Ali Raza Abidi. They expressed grief and sorrow over the tragic incident and prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage and fortitude to the bereaved family members to bear this irreparable loss.

Ali Raza Abidi was a former Member of the National Assembly and remained associated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). He contested election from Karachi against Prime Minister Imran Khan in the July 2018 general election. MQM leaders visited his house after the reports of his murder emerged on social and mainstream media.
