Peggy Lipton, Star Of ‘Mod Squad’ & ‘Twin Peaks’ Dies At 72

Peggy Lipton, who rose to fame from her role as flower child Jolie Barnes in the ABC counterculture television series The Mod Squad, breathed her last On 11 May 2019. The announcement of Peggy Lipton’s death was made by none other than her daughters named Kidada and Rashida Jones.

In a statement, they stated that Lipton “made her journey peacefully with her daughters and nieces by her side.” A the time of her death, Peggy Lipton was 72-year old. In her five decades of an acting career, she has played plenty of roles from Norma Jennings in David Lynch’s Twin Peaks to flower child Julie Barnes in The Mod Squad (1968–1973). Due to her outstanding performance in The Mod Squad, she was awarded a Golden Globe Awards for Best Actress in 1970.

Talking about Lipton’s marital life, she was formerly married to the musician and producer Quincy Jones and was a mother to their two daughters, Rashida Jones and Kidada Jones, who also became actresses. Her paternal grandparents were Russian Jews, and her mother was born in Dublin, Ireland, to Jewish parents who had emigrated from Eastern Europe.

“We feel so lucky for every moment we spent with her. We can’t put all of our feelings into words right now but we will say: Peggy was, and will always be our beacon of light, both in this world and beyond. She will always be a part of us,” the statement reads.

Lipton told The Times in a 1993 interview. “I had a push-pull thing inside me that I wanted to do it. I had become so insulated in my world as a mother, that I didn’t know how to pick up the phone and call anybody to put myself out there.”
