Prince Harry, Meghan Markle announce birth of daughter, name her ‘Lilibet’

On Sunday, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed their baby daughter at the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California. The couple has named her ‘Lilibet’ after Queen Elizabeth and Harry’s late mother Princess Diana.

Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born on Friday at the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California. “On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili. She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe, Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family,” Harry and Meghan said in a statement.

No pictures of the newborn or the Sussexes accompanied the announcement.

Harry and Meghan revealed in Oprah Winfrey’s interview, ‘Oprah With Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special,’ that their second child would be a girl.

In January 2020, the couple stepped down as senior members of the royal family and moved to the Duchess’s native Southern California

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got married on 19 May 2018 in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in the United Kingdom. Their son Archie was born a year later.
