Scania Bus Row: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari Denies Bribery Allegation

Swedish automobile manufacturer Scania has discovered evidence that its employees were involved in bribing local officials for bus contracts. Swedish news channel SVT’s reported that Scania had delivered a bus to a firm with links to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. The vehicle was intended for Gadkari’s daughter’s wedding. They further added that it was not completely paid for.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has denied the allegations. He has also sent legal defamation notices to Swedish media houses SVT and ZDF for reports on the luxury bus from Scania.

As reported by sources to ANI, “The media allegations that in November 2016, Scania delivered a luxury bus to a company that had close ties with Gadkari’s sons are malicious, fabricated and baseless. Gadkari and his family members have absolutely nothing to do with the purchase or sale of the bus. Nor do they have anything do with any firm or individual who might be linked with the purchase or sale of the bus.

As reported by Indian Express, The spokesperson for Scania said the company had not sold a bus to the Indian minister. But had sold the Scania Metrolink to a Bengaluru-based dealer called Transpro Motors. They denied sending a bus for Gadkari’s personal use.

Referring to a Scania response to The Indian Express, a statement was released that said that as revealed by sources of the Swedish company, Gadkari and his family members had nothing to do with the sale or purchase of any Scania bus. They also do not have anything to do with anyone who might be linked with the purchase or sale of the bus.
