Serena Williams slams authorities for excessive drug tests; claims discrimination

Tennis ace Serena Williams accused the US doping chiefs of “racial discrimination” claiming that she is targeted for drug tests more than any other players.

The 36-year-old who had slammed the authorities at Wimbledon for “unfair treatment” after being repeatedly targeted from the drug testers, once again spoke of the discriminatory behavior after being called to another such drug tests.

In a series of tweets she posted on Wednesday, the 23-time Grand Slam winner spoke of how she, unlike other players, was repeatedly summoned to come and appear a drug test.

“…and it’s that time of the day to get “randomly” drug tested and only test Serena. Out of all the players it’s been proven I’m the one getting tested the most. Discrimination? I think so. At least I’ll be keeping the sport clean #StayPositive,” said Serena in her first tweet.

But despite the complaint she said she was happy to do anything that could keep the sports clean. “But I’m ready to do whatever it takes to have a clean sport so bring it on. I’m excited” she added.

Serena has been given a wild card entry to compete in the next month’s Rogers Cup in Montreal. It will be first time since time since 2014 that the three-time champion, who returned from a career threatening injury will play in the tournament.

The wild card entry given to the American is reserved for players who meet the requirements, which includes that the player was ranked number one in some point of her career.

Williams who took a 14-month layoff from the game during her pregnancy, returned to competition at Indian Wells in March, where she was knocked out in the third round. She also reached the Wimbledon 2018 final and is gradually returning to her best.
