Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani’s Shershaah has released on Amazon Prime Video on August 12. The war drama directed by Vishnu Varadhan has Sidharth playing the role of Captain Vikram Batra. The 24-year-old had lost his life while capturing peak 4875 during the Kargil War. Captain Vikram Batra was posthumously conferred with the Param Vir Chakra on August 15, 1999, by the then President KR Narayanan.

1. Vikram Batra was born on September 9, 1974, in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh.

2. He was the elder of twin sons born to Girdhari Lal Batra, a government school principal, and Kamal Kant, a school teacher.

3. Batra got his primary education from his mother Kamal Kant who was a teacher.

4. Vikram was commissioned in the Army as a Lieutenant of the 13th Battalion Jammu & Kashmir Rifles in 1997. He was later promoted to the rank of Captain on the battlefield itself. If alive he would have been General of the Indian Army staff after his return from the Kargil war(1999).

5. On June 19, 1999, under Captain Vikram Batra’s leadership, the Indian army snatched point 5140 from the enemy.

6. After the successful operation of Point 5140, Captain Batra volunteered for the next mission to recapture point 4875. The pointy was later renamed Vikram Batra Top.

7. The swashbuckling soldier gave the nation its war cry of Yeh Dil Maange More and a generation of youngsters their motto.

8. Vikram’s twin brother Vishal Batra, has treasured the letters his brother wrote to him from the war zone.

9. Batra died on July 7, 1999, while saving an injured soldier. He was just 24 years old.
