IPL 2021: VIVO officially returns as title sponsor

This year’s Indian Premier League, also known as IPL will be the fourteenth season. Today, the players’ auction began in Chennai. Last year, in 2020, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had suspended their IPL title sponsorship rights to VIVO. However, now, it has been announced that VIVO will be returning as the title sponsor for this year’s edition.

The confirmation was given by Brijesh Patel, the chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Thursday said during the welcome speech. “Vivo is back, this edition to be announced as VIVO IPL 2021, welcome back Vivo. Cannot wait to have fans back in attendance, most likely they will be in attendance for this year’s IPL, we held one season behind closed doors.”

The chairman of IPL also confirmed that this season the fans will most return to the stadium.

The political tensions between India and China and public outrage caused the BCCI to part ways with VIVO. However, later, Indian fantasy sports platform Dream11 came to BCCI’s aid for Season 13 by winning the rights for Rs 222 crore, nearly half (Rs 440 crore)

Currently, a total of 292 players have been enlisted for the shortened auctions- 164 of them Indian and 125 overseas.
