Wimbledon 2018: Andy Murray to face Benoit Paire in the first round

Andy Murray to face Benoit Paire in a difficult first round

Andy Murray will face a stiff challenge in his comeback game at Wimbledon 2018. He will face Benoit Paire from France. The 31 year old was out with a hip injury and one can say that he recovered well in time for the major event. It will be a difficult task for the two time Wimbledon champion as he has featured in just three games in the past year. Coincidentally Benoit Paire was Andy Murray’s last opponent at Wimbledon, defeating him in the fourth round before losing to Sam Querrey in the Quarter Finals.

Rafael Nadal would love to continue his French Open dominance at the grass court as well. He has failed to surpass fourth round since 2011 and he will be desperate to break the jinx. The 32 year old will face Dudi Sela in the first round. Meanwhile, Roger Federer will take on Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic.

Defending champion Roger Federer and last year’s runner up Marin Cilic are placed in the same draw. While Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Juan Martin Del Potro and Rafael Nadal are in same half of the draw.

The clay king Rafael Nadal will face a stiff task in the quest of his third Wimbledon title. Getting past Andy Murray or Del Potro in the quarterfinals will be a difficult task. If he does so, the three time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic or Nick Kyrgios will meet him in the semifinals.

On the other hand Roger Federer would be hungry for his ninth title. He could play Coric in the fourth round before a gigantic encounter against last year’s semifinalist Sam Querrey or Kevin Anderson in the quarterfinals.

Other exciting first round matches include Australia’s James Duckworth taking on Zverev; Kyrgios against Denis Istomin and Kei Nishikori against Christian Harrison.

Wimbledon will commence from Monday, 2nd July.
