1 Killed, 2 Injured in Firing by Nepal Police Along Border in Bihar

Amid the ongoing border dispute with India, Nepal police fired indiscriminately. The firing took place at the border near Sitamarhi district in Bihar on Friday. It killed an Indian and injured two others.

Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Director General (DG) Kumar Rajesh Chandra said, A family from Jankinagar village in Samastipur were inside Nepalese territory as one of the daughters-in-law is a Nepali citizen. The family had gone to fetch her back. The Nepal APF asked them to leave the territory citing lockdown till June 14 following which an altercation happened and the APF fired 15 rounds, killing one.

He added that, this was is a “local issue” that “emerged from a local altercation.

One person has been detained by Nepali security personnel and we’re in talks with them so that they release him and matters don’t escalate. Everything happened in Nepal, not on the Indian side”, DG SSB Kumar Rajesh Chandra told ANI.

Nepal shares a 1,850-kilometre (1,150-mile) open border with India and people travel across it for work and to visit family. It had closed its international borders on March 22 amid the coronavirus pandemic.
