PM Modi-led centre will soon launch a new 100-rupee coin bearing the image of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Notably, this coin is latest in a series of gestures being made to pay homage to the former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

According to the media reports, the 100-rupee coin will weigh 35 grams. It will have a portrait of Atal Bihari Vajpayee on one side and the other side of the coin will have the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the centre with “Satyameva Jayate” inscribed below in the Devanagari script.

“The inscription ‘अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी’ in Devanagri script and ‘Atal Bihari Vajpayee’ in English shall be written on the top left periphery and top right periphery of the coin. The year ‘1924’ and ‘2018’ in international numeral shall be flanked at the bottom of the portrait,” the report said.

The word “Bharat” will be put on its left periphery in the Devanagari script and “India” will be on the right in English, the report added.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee, was an Indian politician who served three terms as the Prime Minister of India, first for a term of 13 days in 1996, then for a period of 13 months from 1998 to 1999 and finally, for a full term from 1999 to 2004. He died on 16 August at the age of 93 due to prolonged illness.
