Apple: iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max and iPhone XR launched; specifications, features, price and more

Apple announced the launch of iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max and iPhone Xr, at a Gather Round event in Cupertino. Its 12th-generation phones are now official.

Tech major Apple Inc. launched it most anticipated series of the new iPhones; iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max and iPhone XR- all of which sport the same design as the company’s tenth-anniversary model, iPhone X.

Apple unveiled its much coveted new iPhones at an event held in the Steve Jobs Theatre at Apple Park, California, US. Though these new iPhones are based on the same design as the company’s tenth-anniversary model, iPhone X, but possess different features that make them fall in different price points.

With this mega launch the Cupertino-based technology firm has also shed off the smartphone design that was carried by the iPhone 6, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

India: price and availability

The iPhone Xs Max will be available in 64GB, 256GB and 512GB storage capacities. it will come in three colour options — space grey, silver and a new gold finish starting at Rs 109,900. The 5.8-inch iPhone Xs will also come in same storage capacities as iPhone X Max. The colour options too are same. As for the price, iPhone Xs will start at Rs 99,900. Both iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max will be available in India starting September 28, 2018.

iPhone XR is the most affordable of the latest iPhones series. The iPhone XR will be available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB storage options in white, black, blue, yellow and coral starting at Rs 76,900. There will be the (PRODUCT) red version of the iPhone XR as well at the same price. Buyers will be able to pre-order iPhone XR beginning October 2019.

Dual SIM Standby is one of the key features of the new iPhone handsets launched. This smartphone will also support eSIM cards. The list of carriers supporting e-SIM shared by Apple on stage includes Airtel and Reliance Jio. More details on this are expected to be out soon.

The iPhone Xs and the iPhone Xs Max boast of OLED screens that are more battery efficient and more saturated. They also feature dual rear cameras. Powering the processing side of this is the Apple A12 Bionic processor. The chipset’s GPU, ISP and Neural engine work in tandem to bring better augmented reality experience.

In terms of camera, the iPhone Xs and the Xs Max features dual 12MP rear cameras with f/1.8 wide aperture. At the front, there is a 7MP TrueDepth camera that deliver better portrait images. The handset also has a new feature called Smart HDR, which combines several images of a moving subject together and analyses it to bring the best shot. All the more, one can now click the image first and can adjust the blur level in the background later while editing.

The battery life of the iPhone Xs Max is said to deliver up to an hour and a half more than that of the iPhone X.

Features and specifications: iPhone XR

Apple iPhone XR also has the same Apple A12 Bionic processor, but it also has a 6.1-inch LCD display and a single rear camera. The handset is said to have a 12MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture. You can get the device in six colour options. The iOS 12-based smartphone has rest nearly the same set of features as the iPhone XS and the XS Max.
