Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday by linking the death of a multinational executive with his religion. The  38-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by an Uttar Pradesh policeman in Lucknow.

Expressing his opinion, the Aam Aadmi Party convener Tweeted, “Why did they kill Vivek Tiwari, a Hindu? BJP leaders are freely raping women and getting away with it. Open your eyes to the fact that the BJP is not a well-wisher of Hindus. They will not think twice before murdering all Hindus to get to power.”

With this tweet he sparked a controversy stating that not only Muslims, but Hindus too are not safe under BJP-rule. Replying back to the tweet following his previous one, he said, “No, even though Vivek Tiwari was a Hindu. BJP does not protect the interest of Hindus.”

Kejriwal’s comments were not taken in a positive sense by the netizens and they accused him of being silent on the alleged stabbing of Ankit Saxena by the family of his Muslim girlfriend in west Delhi’s Raghubir Nagar earlier this year, reports NDTV. Appealing Kejriwal not to make such comments, wife of Tiwari — Kalpana — said that no politics should be played over her husband’s death.

Deputy CM of Uttar Pradesh Keshav Maurya slammed Kejriwal for his comments and said, “The two policemen who committed this horrendous crime have been sent to prison, and the entire police force cannot be questioned just because of them.”

According to the incident, Tiwari was shot dead was allegedly shot dead by policemen for not stopping the car at a police checkpoint in Lucknow’s Gomtinagar area early on Saturday. His body was cremated on Sunday.
