BJP lawmaker to advocate for Jharkhand Lynchers

A BJP lawmaker Nishikant Dubey from Jharkhand has said that he will pay for the legal expenses of four men in Jharkhand accused of killing two others on suspicion of cattle theft in the state’s Godda district. Dubey, who represents the Godda constituency in the parliament, called it a “personal decision” since he believes the four men were being unfairly targeted for the incident.

The incident took place on Wednesday after a mob allegedly lynched two men over suspicion of stealing cattle. Jharkhand Police said that four people have been arrested in this regard.

Mr Dubey told NDTV, “The entire village was involved in the beating. Why are these four people being singled out just because their cattle was stolen?”

The two victims have been identified as – Sirabuddin Ansari (35) and Murtaza Ansari (30). Two FIRs have also been registered in connection with the incident.

If reports are to be believed, they are a gang of five that entered the village and had a history of stealing cattle. Reports also said that some villages raised the alarm when they got to know about the thieves and they were chased after more people gathered. Later, the villagers caught hold of two of them and thrashed them leading to their death.

The rising incidents of mob lynching across the country have become a matter of concern.

The recent incident which drew huge outrage was the one where two men were beaten up to death in Assam’s Karbi Anglong by the villagers after they mistook the two as child lifters.

Two youth were pulled out of their vehicle at Panjuri in Karbi Anglong district in Assam and beaten to death by a group of irate villagers, who suspected them to be child-lifters on the basis of fake information circulated on social media.
