Britain’s Prince Philip Duke Of Edinburgh Passes Away

Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth II, has passed away. The Greece-born royal who was 99. He passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. The news was shared by Britain’s royal family.

Philip married his third cousin Elizabeth in 1947. They were married for more than 70 years, making him the longest-serving spouse of a reigning British monarch. He was also the oldest-ever male member of the British royal family. Phillip and Elizabeth had four children ― Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.

According to the royal website, The Duke of Edinburgh had taken up more than 22,000 solo engagements, 637 overseas visits, delivered an estimated 5,493 speeches and worked as a patron to almost 800 organizations.

He is survived by his wife, the queen; four children; eight grandchildren, including Princes William and Harry; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Under a long-standing plan known as “Operation Forth Bridge,” his death ushers in a period of national mourning.
