CA XI vs India: Murali Vijay’s ton headlines frustrating day for hosts’ bowlers

The struggle of the Indian bowlers on the fourth day’s play was overshadowed by a stylish century from the bat of Murali Vijay to strengthen his bid for the opening slot in the first Test.

The right-hander was shown the door after the second Test match against England but a brief stint with County side Essex shook the cobwebs of his batting as he regained his composure.

With the young Prithvi Shaw, who was certain to be selected, out with an injury, Vijay seized the chance he got as he struck a total of 16 fours and five sixes to end with 129 beside his name.

KL Rahul, expectedly Vijay’s opening partner in Adelaide also showed signs of return to form with 62 as India made 212/2.

This was the last preparations India could have got before the highly-anticipated Test series which kicks off on December 26.

But the Indian bowlers had a tough time with pacers Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma returning with figures of 1/113 and 1/73 respectively. Ravichandran Ashwin ended with figures of 2/122.

For Cricket Australia XI, it was Harry Nielsen who scored a hundred. It was Indian skipper Virat Kohli who got the better of him. The other three batsmen to score fifties are D’Arcy Short, Aaron Hardie and Max Bryant.
