CBI’s key witness in Unnao rape case dies, buried without autopsy

Key witness in Unnao gangrape case dies

Another shocking revelation has come to light relating to the gruesome Unnao rape case wherein the kin of the key witness, who died last week, has demanded for his body to be exhumed after it was buried without an autopsy.

The key witness, Yunus Khan, according to the investigating agency CBI,  died last week. Another tainted incident in the case occured when the father of the rape survivor was allegedly assaulted in police custody, leading to his death in April.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Kuldeep Sengar is the prime accused in the gang-rape case.

The survivor’s uncle alleged that Yunus might have been poisoned, also hinting towards Sengar’s involvement in the incident and is seeking the family’s permission for the post-mortem.

“Yunus Khan, whom the CBI had made a witness in my brother’s murder case, died under mysterious circumstances on Sunday. I am sure Kuldeep is behind his death. I have written to the CBI, the district magistrate and the superintendent of police of Unnao to exhume Khan’s body for a post-mortem,” the uncle told reporters in Unnao on Wednesday.

“Khan’s family members have said he fell ill suddenly and died. They hurriedly buried him under pressure from the MLA,” the uncle added.

Reports in The Times of India quoted the deceased’s uncle as saying, “I met Unnao SP Harish Kumar and submitted my application with him. I requested him to exhume the body and get the post mortem done since he was the main witness in the assault case and it is beyond understanding how did he die all of a sudden. I, therefore, urge you to register an FIR and instruct the Makhi police station to initiate legal action,” the application read.

According to a report in The Telegraph, a CBI source said: “Khan’s family members did not inform us about his death. They buried him silently. We need time to take a decision on this development.”

“While the victim was a minor when she was raped, Kuldeep recently forced the teachers of the school where she studied to change her date of birth to prove that she was an adult at that time. The CBI visited the school recently and recovered the original documents,” he said.
