On Sunday i.e April 18, India recorded its highest single-day surge with 2.61 lakh fresh COVID-19 cases. For the past few days, many states reported running out of oxygen amidst the rapidly surging cases. After Maharashtra CM, Uddhav Thackeray, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee seeks COVID-19 aid from PM Narendra Modi. She asks for the supply of oxygen, vaccines and Remdesivir in the state amidst new emerging cases.
Mamata Banerjee highlighted that the state is lacking vaccine stocks to treat patients. She has also urged PM Narendra Modi to aid the state with the additional support of 5.4 crore vaccine doses to inoculate 2.7 crore citizens. According to a new report by ANI, Banerjee wrote to PM Modi requesting the much-needed supply of 5.4 crores more vaccine doses, a steady supply of Remdesivir and Tocilizumab medicines and a supply of oxygen.
After many states reported having a shortage of vaccine supply, the government fast-tracked permissions for emergency use of foreign-made COVID-19 vaccines. The Russian-made vaccine is the first one to crack the tests.
For the unversed, Remdesivir injection is used to treat Covid-19 infected patients, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus in hospitalized adults and children 12 years of age and older who weigh at least 88 pounds (40 kg). Recently, the government has revised the prices of these vaccines. The Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Mansukh L Mandaviya tweeted, “Due to the government’s intervention, the price of #Remdesivir Injection is now reduced! I am thankful to pharmaceutical companies for joining hands with the Government to fight against COVID-19 pandemic.”
