Playwright, screenwriter and actor Crazy Mohan passes away at 67

Popular theatre artiste and ace scriptwriter for Tamil films Crazy Mohan passed away today in Chennai. The eminent film personality suffered an acute heart attack on Monday. He was immediately taken to the Kauvery Hospital in Chennai. Efforts to revive him with the defibrillator failed and he was declared dead at 2 pm.

His real name is Mohan Rangachari. He was fondly known as Crazy Mohan because of his hit skit called Crazy Thieves In Paalavakkam. Mohan qualified as a mechanical engineer at the College of Engineering, Guindy, in the 1970s. The veteran screenwriter started his own drama troupe Crazy Creations in 1979. Chocolate Krishna, Maadhu +2 and Madhil Mel Maadhu were popular comedy plays, written by him.

Also, a painter Crazy Mohan was in the habit of writing one venba every day, penning over 40,000 till date. Venba is a classical Tamil poetry form, the Thirukkural being a good example.

Crazy Mohan is also known for his collaborations with superstar Kamal Haasan. He has written the dialogues for blockbuster films like ‘Avvai Shanmugi’,  ‘Michael Madana Kamarajan’ and many more. The popular actor has also worked with Rajinikanth in the film ‘Arunachalam’.

He was a recipient of Tamil Nadu State Government’s Kalaimamani Award for his excellence in the fields of arts and literature. His last film as a writer was Prabhudheva-Tamannaah’s Devi 2, which released on May 31.
