Lady superstar Deepika Padukone — who is currently busy promoting her upcoming movie Chaapaak — has decided to pay visit to JNU campus today (January 7, 2020). Yes, Deepika Padukone has visited Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Universuty (JNU) campus and expressed solidarity with students and teachers who were attacked on Sunday.
Deepika Padukone’s JNU visit comes two days after a bunch of people armed with iron rods and sticks attacked students and teachers on the campus. The brutal attack left almost 30 people including students and staff injured and provoked nationwide outrage.
According to reports, Deepika Padukone did not speak at JNU but she was spotted standing with a group of students who were attacked including the president of the students’ union Aishe Ghosh. When Deepika visited the campus, former student leader Kanhaiya Kumar was also present.
According to reports, the Padmaavat actress visited the JNU Campus around 7:30 pm, attended a public meeting for around 15 minutes and left after speaking to a few members of the students’ union. Deepika’s act of visiting the campus instantly triggered calls by the ruling BJP to boycott her movies.
Speaking about the ongoing protest on January 5, Deepika Padukone told NDTV that she was proud “people are not scared”.
“I feel proud that we are not scared. I think to be able to express ourselves. I think the fact we are thinking about this and about the future of our country… it is nice to see people are coming out on the streets to voice this and express [themselves]. Because if we want to see change, this is very important,” she said.
