Iran Fires Ballistic Missiles At 2 United States Bases In Iraq

Iran and American tension have escalated to a new high. Iran on Wednesday fired missiles at Iraqi bases used by the US military. This is the first act of the Islamic republic’s promised revenge for the US killing of a top Iranian general. Iranian general Qasem Soleimani, one of the most important figures in the country’s government was killed in a drone strike and since then Iran had vowed vengeance.

Videos on social media are showing Iranian ballistic missiles hitting two airbases in Iraq used by American and coalition troops.

In a video, we can see a streak of light hitting the ground in a ball of fire.

In a statement, Pentagon said, “Still working on initial battle damage assessments. After Iran launched more than a dozen ballistic missiles against US military and coalition forces in Iraq. It is clear that these missiles were launched from Iran and targeted at least two Iraqi military bases hosting US military and coalition personnel at Al-Assad and Irbil.”

They further added, “There were no immediate reports on casualties as the bases had been ready. These bases have been on high alert due to indications that the Iranian regime planned to attack our forces and interests in the region.”

The Iranian Revolutionary Guards announced that the Ain al-Assad base was hit with dozens of missiles, warning that a US counter-attack would be met with an even “more crushing response.”

In Washington, US President Donald Trump was “monitoring the situation closely and consulting with his national security team,” according to the White House.

The US Federal Aviation Administration has issued the airspace ban due to heightened military activities and increased political tensions in the Middle East, which present an inadvertent risk to U.S. civil aviation operations.
