Digvijaya Singh: If I speak, Congress loses votes

Congress leader Digvijaya Singh thinks if he speaks Congress loses votes and that’s the reason why he skips election rallies

Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and veteran Congress leader Digvijaya Singh thinks if he speaks Congress loses votes and that’s the reason why he skips election rallies. He said he has left both publicity and speeches.

“Whoever gets the ticket, even if it’s an enemy, we should make him win. I only have one work; no publicity, no speeches. Congress loses votes with my speeches, which is why I don’t attend rallies,” Singh was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. The veteran politicians was speaking at an informal interaction with partymen in Bhopal.

Singh advised the party workers to regroup and ensure that all the candidates fielded by the party win even if some are thought to be “rebels” in the forthcoming Assembly Elections. Madhya Pradesh, where he served as the chief minister, will go into polls on November 28 to decide who will rule the state for the next five years. BJP has been in power in the state for the last three terms.

Recently, the Congress leader drew flak from Mayawati as she alleged that Singh was the one who didn’t want BSP to ally with Congress in the state. To which Singh trashed the allegations and put the onus on Mayawati. Singh had said that the BSP chief was under pressure from the central government not to join hands with Congress in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.

Singh has been in controversy on several occasions for out-of-turn comments, the latest being the tweet about Prime Minister Narendra Modi. BJP demanded apology from the leader for using “filthy language”, but Singh refused to apologise saying endorsement of tweets doesn’t mean supporting. “Retweets are never endorsements. This is the basic principle of Twitter,” he said.
