Flipkart will launch a new programme on the lines of Amazon Prime. Titled as Flipkart Plus, the ‘customer-first’ benefits programme will be a point-based no-fee membership and will go live on August 15 (Independence Day). This expansion comes months after getting fresh sources of funds through Walmart.

Walmart bought 77% shares of Indian retail giant Flipkart for $16 billion. The union of this two giants is considered as India’s largest acquisition and the world’s most mammoth purchase of an e-commerce-retail company.

Reportedly, the services which would be provided by Flipkart will be reward-based one which will allow customers early access to major sale events like Flipkart’s Big Billion Days and Big Shopping Days as well as free and faster delivery. In addition to that, Flipkart will also be rolling out a ‘Plus-points’ scheme with every order which will unlock more deals and discounts on other products and services.

According to TheMobileIndian, Flipkart plus points will be able to be redeemed at other outlets including, MakeMyTrip, Zomato, Café Coffee Day or even Hotstar. Hotstar tops the list of competitors for Amazon’s Prime Video.

Amazon Prime started with an introductory price of Rs 499 in India back in 2016. The Seattle-based-e-retailer now charges Rs 999 for its service that includes free delivery services, early access to product sales, membership to watch Prime Video and Prime Music and other services.

Flipkart has thus a long way to go if it plans to reach the standards set by its US-based counterpart Amazon Prime.
