George Floyd Death: Donald Trump threatens to deploy military to end protests

Protests, rioting, and looting spread across the United States. This happened following the police killing of George Floyd, an African American man last week. Amid racial unrest across the nation, President Donald Trump threatened to deploy active military personnel if governors across the country are unable to bring the violence under control.

President Donald Trump delivered a message of “law and order” to the nation from the White House Rose Garden. He said, “Mayors and governors must establish an overwhelming law enforcement presence until the violence has been quelled. If a city or a state refuses to take the actions that are necessary to defend the life and property of their residents, then I will deploy the United States military and quickly solve the problem for them.”

Warning Washington DC citizens of a seven o’clock curfew, he said he was deploying, “thousands and thousands of heavily armed soldiers, military personnel, and law enforcement officers” in the city.

US President Donald Trump during a press briefing said his administration is fully committed, that justice will be fully served for George and his family and He will not have died in vain.

The President berated the nation’s governors during a conference call, describing them as “weak” in the face of growing racial unrest. He also urged them to take an aggressive stand against unruly protests.

The Washington Post reported, Before Mr. Trump started speaking, police fired rubber bullets, flash-bang shells, and gas into protesters in Lafayette Square – which is just outside the White House.
