Girish Karnad death: PM Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind pay condolences to the veteran actor

Veteran actor and playwright Girish Karnad took his last breath today on June 10 at a hospital in Bengaluru at 6.30 am in the morning. He died due to multiple organs failure as he was suffering from prolonged illness for years. He was 81 at the time of death and is survived by his wife Saraswathi, son Raghu Karnad, and daughter Radha. From celebs to politicians, everyone is mourning the death of this prominent personality. PM Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind to Chief Minister of Karnataka Sadananda Gowda and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, many politicians paid condolences to the departed soul.

PM Modi took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “Girish Karnad will be remembered for his versatile acting across all mediums.” Here’s his tweet.

Ram Nath Kovind is also “sad to hear of the passing of Girish Karnad, writer, actor and doyen of Indian theatre.”

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also tweeted, “Sad news coming in the morning about the passing away of veteran noted actor and playwright Girish Karnad. Girish ji’s views and artistic contribution will be missed by the country.”

Girish Karnad was awarded the Padma Shri in 1974 and the Padma Bhushan in 1992.
